Commissions - A Bespoke Artwork, Built by Hand

I’ve always believed that art begins with listening — to the material, to the space, and to the person who will live with the work. A commission is a chance to create something specifically for you, shaped by the rhythm of your home, the light in your room, and the feeling you want the piece to hold.Every commission is a collaboration. You bring the intention; I bring the craft. Together, we build something that couldn’t exist any other way.

A Bespoke Artwork, Built by Hand

I’ve always believed that art begins with listening — to the material, to the space, and to the person who will live with the work. A commission is a chance to create something specifically for you, shaped by the rhythm of your home, the light in your room, and the feeling you want the piece to hold.

Every commission is a collaboration. You bring the intention; I bring the craft. Together, we build something that couldn’t exist any other way.

What a Commission Means

Across sculpture, painting, mixed media, and reclaimed materials, my work has always centered on transformation. Pieces begin as resin, wood, foam, paint — sometimes even old surfboards that have already lived a full life before reaching my hands. Through texture, layering, carving, and refinement, they’re shaped into something new.

A bespoke work continues that philosophy. It’s built from your space, your story, and the quiet emotional register that runs through all my pieces — calm, grounded, and meant to live with you for a long time.

You don’t need the perfect vision. Just a starting point. I’ll help guide the rest.

The Commission Process

A straightforward, collaborative approach from first conversation to installation.

1. Getting to Know the Space

We begin with a simple conversation.
You can share photos, dimensions, or just a feeling you want the artwork to carry. We talk about the mood of the room, the light, and where you imagine the piece living.

This helps me understand the emotional architecture of your space — the foundation everything else is built on.

2. Finding the Right Direction

Once I understand what the piece needs to become, I start shaping the idea.
This may include:

Nothing overly formal — just enough for us to align on the direction before I begin.

3. Building the Work

This is where the transformation happens.
Layer by layer, the piece takes form. I carve, sand, pour, build, and refine until the materials settle into something honest and intentional. The process is hands-on and intuitive, born from years of working in trades and making things in physical space.

Throughout, I can share progress images if you’d like to follow along — many clients enjoy seeing the quiet evolution.

4. Review & Finishing

When the piece is complete, I send final photos or welcome you for a studio viewing.
We look at:

The work is finished when it feels right — calm, grounded, and ready for the room it was made for.

5. Delivery & Installation

Your piece is prepared with care and delivered safely.
For larger works, I coordinate with professional installers to ensure the artwork sits exactly as intended — balanced with light, height, and architectural lines.

Every commissioned work includes:

What Clients Commission

People commission pieces for many reasons:

Whether it’s for a private residence, a hospitality space, or a personal collection, each project starts the same way — with intention, respect for material, and a desire to build something meaningful.

Timeline & Investment

Every artwork is different, but most commissions take 4–10 weeks, depending on size and materials. Larger sculptural works, multi-panel pieces, or surfboard transformations may take longer.

Pricing is shaped by:

Common Questions

Do I need to know exactly what I want?

No — many clients start with a feeling, a color they’re drawn to, or an image of their space. We build from there.

Can you work with specific palettes or textures?

Yes. Your interior’s light and mood help guide the palette and material choices.

Do you create large-scale pieces?

Absolutely. Large statements, diptychs, triptychs, and sculptural installations are some of my favorite projects.

Are surfboard commissions available?

Yes. When reclaimed boards are available, I can transform them into sculptural pieces. These works hold a unique story and connection to place.

Do you ship outside Hawaiʻi?

Yes — domestic and international shipping can be arranged.
